Construction Begins February 1, 2022 to Bring HomeGoods to Ridgefield

Sunday, January 16, 2022, Kohl's, permanently closed its doors in Ridgefield after more than two decades at 125 Danbury Road. Yesterday, the "Kohl's" signage was taken off the storefront.

Today, we spoke with Jack deVilliers, Senior VP at Regency Centers about what’s next for the space that housed Kohl's for more than two decades.

HomeGoods is on the horizon. “We will be starting construction on February 1, 2022 to split the space and put a HomeGoods in, the plan is to open late summer 2022,” said deVilliers.

HomeGoods will occupy 25,000 sq ft of space. What about the remaining space? “As far as the balance of the space, we are still working with multiple groups we have some really good prospects and we are hoping to figure something out over the next six to nine months,” he said.

While many are speculating about the store that will join HomeGoods, deVilliers said, “We don’t have anything signed at this time. There is a lot of interest we are confident we can find the right fit for Ridgefield.”

HomeGoods, with a store less than ten miles from Ridgefield in neighboring Danbury, told us back in  2020, that they feel they are missing out on customers in the Ridgefield market as well as in communities to the south of Ridgefield. We were also told that Kohl's will remain open to shoppers during the construction period.

According to Regency Centers website, the company owns 44 properties in Connecticut. deVilliers told us that several HomeGoods stores are part of their portfolio as well as Danbury Greens shopping center at 115 Mill Plain Road, home to Trader Joe's.

de Villiers told us that TJX, the parent company of HomeGoods will likely announce employment opportunities in the near future.
