Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Poppin' Flavorz!

Three questions with Spencer Soleiman, founder of Poppin' Flavorz.

Why did you start your business?

I’ve had a heightened interest in business/working my whole life. As a very young child, I would spend hours in the basement creating all different types of businesses. As I got older, I would take any volunteer or paying job that came my way (little league concession stand, lemonade cart, pumpkin patch, etc.).

So, when the opportunity came for me to create a real business with investors and mentors, I jumped at the chance. At age thirteen I was accepted into the Young Entrepreneurs Academy in our area and created Poppin’ Flavorz.

What is your best-selling product/service?

I would have to say our best-selling product is our Soda Fountain Flavored Gumballs (Cherry Cola, Root Beer, Lemon-Lime, Grape, and Orange).

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

- Squash’s for administrative supplies and labels.

- I partnered with Ridgefield Responds for the Hope for Ukraine Charity event in town (we made custom gumball packs with the colors of Ukraine).

- Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce. I became a junior chamber of commerce member years ago. They also were the ones that sponsored the Young Entrepreneurs Academy that I attended.

Spencer would like to nominate The Language School to be featured next!
