Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Lyn Kehoe Power Yoga!

Three questions with Lyn Gerfin Kehoe, founder of Lyn Kehoe Power Yoga.

Why did you start your business?

I’ve been teaching yoga for about 25 years and wanted a place to offer group classes and my yoga teacher training. It was vital for me to have a simple space so I would not become overwhelmed with the maintenance and administrative end of things. This way, I could stay focused on what was important: sharing yoga and creating a safe community for people to connect and grow.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Consistency is key to reaping the benefits of yoga. Most of my students take advantage of the monthly class pass membership. The three options are 1x/week, 2x/week, or unlimited. Students find that committing to a monthly pass keeps them on track with regular practice.
And, of course, there is a single-class option for those who need more flexibility.

Have you “reimagined” your small business?

Even with being back to a standard studio class schedule, many students continue to prefer practicing from home. All of the in-studio classes have a Zoom/live-stream option.

I also have a monthly subscription-based on-demand platform that offers a library of prerecorded yoga classes. It includes classes recorded during the lockdown via Zoom and live studio classes. There are currently over 33 classes on the platform, and I add new classes monthly.

My 200-Hour Online, Self-Paced Yoga Teacher Certification, is also popular. It allows those who need a flexible schedule to register online, get immediate access to the course, and complete the requirements at their own pace from anywhere. I have quite a few high school and college students currently registered and in the process of completing the training. It's exciting to have younger people interested in deepening their yoga practice.
