The Peter Parley/West Lane District Schoolhouse will be open to visitors on Sunday, June 25, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The school, at the intersection of West Lane, South Salem Road and Silver Spring Road, last had pupils attending from the neighborhood in 1915 and is now maintained as a museum of Ridgefield district schools by the Ridgefield Historical Society.
Exhibits include books by the prolific children’s author, Samuel G. Goodrich (under the pen name Peter Parley), and others, exhibits about other graduates of the West Lane school, and furnishings typical of the year the school closed. Historical Society volunteers Jack and Sally Sanders will be on hand to answer questions. Admission is free; donations are welcomed.
Last Sundays at the Schoolhouse will continue July 30, Aug. 27, Sept. 24, and Oct. 29. For more information visit https://ridgefieldhistoricalsociety.org/.
