Ridgefield Democrats Hold Public Forum on Immigration

The daily headlines and politics surrounding documented and undocumented immigration, DACA, refugees, family separation, and civil rights, obscure the need for dialogue, public policy solutions and compassion.

To bring facts and dialogue to the subject as it pertains to Connecticut communities and families, the Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee is conducting an “Open Forum on Immigration, Civil Rights & Connecticut”, on Monday evening, August 6, 7:30 pm – 9 pm, at Ridgefield Library.

The format will be a panel presentation followed by questions and dialogue from the audience. The panel will be moderated by Susan D. Cocco, with panelists:

  • William Tong, Chair of the Connecticut House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, son of immigrants, and a first generation American.  Rep. Tong worked to pass Connecticut’s Trust Act which protects immigrant families and undocumented residents from action by the Trump administration.
  • Chris George, Executive Director, Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services of Connecticut, an independent non-sectarian non-profit which provides haven and resettlement for immigrants and refugees.
  • Aimee-Berger-Girvalo, Ridgefield educator and advocate for families and children.
  • Sylvia Steinert (LCSW), a psychoanalyst with 20 years of experience in private practice. Ms. Steinert has provided counseling to refugees suffering from PTSD and served as an expert witness on applications for asylum.
