Coffee with Governor Lamont at Tazza Cafe in Downtown Ridgefield

The Town of Ridgefield Facebook page reported that before today's snow arrived, Governor Lamont and First Selectman Rudy Marconi met at Tazza Cafe - Ridgefield where they discussed:

1. Teachers Pension - The unfunded teachers pension and the concerns of all municipalities about the possible allocation of some of the debt to the municipality.
2. School Regionalization - Voiced major concern and opposition about the Senate Bill proposed by Senator Looney. Governor Lamont stated that he is definitely NOT in support of this bill. However, discussions did take place about the possibility of consolidating back-office functions such as accounting, payroll etc.
3. The restoration of the STEAP (Small Town Economic Assistance Program) for communities under ~40k population.
4. Health Insurance - perhaps on of the most significant uncontrollable costs for municipalities. Current rates of increase are unsustainable.
5. Many different roles that COGs (Council of Governments) can play in creating efficiencies on a regional basis.
6. Opioid Issue - discussed the need for greater implementation of the M.A.T. (medically assisted treatment) model. All rehabilitation facilities should be required to follow this protocol. Many facilities have had the time to implement but have not. Time for legislation! Additionally called for the establishment of an office of drug policy with a director who will coordinate all State efforts.
