Last night, on The Marty Heiser Show (Comcast Public Access Channel 23) Ridgefield candidates for First Selectman, Rudy Marconi and Richard Mocca were asked questions by Marty Heiser and attorney, Bob Opotzner. After questions are asked, the candidates had one minute to respond followed by a minute rebuttal.
The debate was spirited and engaging! The two candidates expressed passion and ideology (and did not always agree) when speaking about issues including education, town traffic, local commerce, the increased sewer fee, and more. The candidates remarked about their character, why they are best suited for the office at hand, and how they will preserve Ridgefield's own historic character.
Moccia, in his opening statement, said, "It [Ridgefield] doesn't have the small-town feeling anymore, too much overgrowth and traffic, too much building. We are a safe town from a crime point of view, but there is another element to safety: walking, jogging... the abuse of our trucks that are bypassing Route 7 - issues that cloud our environment." He said, if elected, he wants to use his office to tackle this problem by talking with the state of Connecticut and bringing in grant money, among other things. He said he wants to "give the people of Ridgefield the feeling of that small town once again". Moccia said "I'm running because the incumbent has not had an opponent for the last two elections, I feel it's important for the Town, for democracy. I think it's important to have a dialogue."
