Ridgefield Letter: ADU’s Are An Asset But Only With Regulations

ADU’s Are An Asset But Only With Regulations

ADU’s (Affordable Dwelling Units) are an organically wonderful idea as well as a terrific option for most families to live comfortably together, especially in today’s climate. But, RVU does not support the PZ Chairwoman’s proposal to change the square footage maximum of ADU’s from 900 to 1200 square feet.

Unfortunately, there is no data that this change would advance the must needed Affordable Housing issue in Ridgefield.

Sadly, now there is a proposal to completely remove ADU’s from the Affordable Housing equation which can further hurt the cause.

One thing we can all agree on is that Ridgefield residents love their town and are savvy about PZB issues. We also entrust our boards that we duly elect to keep rules and regulations in place. So, to circumvent those would be taking residents' rights away including “Letters of Notice”.

Board Member Robert Hendrick took the time to research how surrounding towns handle the sizes of ADU's and found they base them on the square footage of the existing home. It is an option that residents deserve to hear about.

RVU strongly feels that it would be prudent to put a decision/vote on hold until all questions and options are answered and discussed.

HamletHub’s mission is to make every town better by connecting each member of the community. Allowing residents to express opinions and help inform each other is vital to accomplishing this mission. We hope to facilitate healthy discussion, but will not allow unproductive vitriol. This is how we judge the difference.

*The primary purpose of any submission is to make the town better. *The writer of each piece assumes that anyone with an opposing view is coming from a place of love for our town and every single person in it, and that is portrayed to the reader

We do not have the resources to fact check and monitor every submission. We are relying on the greatness of every single person in this town to help us make this portal a vehicle for community connectivity. When that happens we all win.
