Connecticut Braver Angels to Host Skills for Bridging the Divide Workshop on 5/7/2022

Bipartisan movement brings community members together to learn the discipline of non-polarizing attitudes and words toward those who hold other political views

On May 7, Braver Angels will host a Skills for Bridging the Divide workshop, designed to help citizens learn & practice skills for having more respectful & productive political conversations with people on the "other side."

Launched in 2016, Braver Angels is a bipartisan citizen’s movement to unify America. By bringing Red and Blue Americans together into a working alliance, Braver Angels is building new ways to talk to one another, participate together in public life, and influence the direction of the nation.

“Braver Angels has been bringing civil discourse to Americans from all walks of life, and we’re excited to be able to bring the Skills for Bridging the Divide Workshop to Connecticut,” says Al Smith, Braver Angels Connecticut State Co-Coordinator.

The Braver Angels Connecticut Alliance encourages residents to attend national Braver Angels events—workshops, book and film clubs, national debates, podcasts, and more—and hosts its own local events, including topical presentations, discussions, and debates.

Recent polls show that a majority of Americans feel our country is more divided than ever, and increasingly view members of the opposite political party as not just wrong—but bad people. At the same time, Americans are increasingly divided into bubbles and echo chambers with limited exposure to “the other side,” consuming news that confirms their opinions and stereotypes.

By creating opportunities for meaningful discussions, Braver Angels works to dial down the heated rhetoric that gets in the way of real conversations and accurate understanding of our differences and areas of agreement. The objective is not to change people’s political views, but to change people’s views of one another.

"Skills for Bridging the Divide" will take place on Saturday, May 7th, 2022, 2:00pm - 4:00pm ET via Zoom.
