Letter: Ridgefield Golf Course Neighbors Speak Out Regarding Cell Tower

Dear Editor:

In the recent article “Ridgefield Agrees to 100-foot Cell Tower,” you reported the town voted “unanimously,” but that was only part of the story. The fact is, attendance was incredibly low and not one resident from the north side of the golf course (where the site is located) was present. The entire neighborhood directly impacted by this decision did not know a specific site had been selected and was at a final stage — including the owners abutting the site.

The Selectmen discussed on 9/20 that notifying residents would be a “requirement.” We have now learned they passed this buck to Homeland Towers, but notification was never sent. Yet the people elected to represent the best interests of the residents of Ridgefield are sticking to this “vote” as it stands.

The site in question is in the very northeast corner of the course property, as close to a neighborhood as possible. Due to the lack of tree cover, the tower is in a field, imposing over backyards, swing sets, and the daily lives of homeowners and families who live in Ridgefield for a better quality of life.

We are not saying to kill the tower, simply this site. We ask that the town terminate the lease passed through without any communication or  transparency, and seek out a site that will use the 100+ acre expanse of the course to move the tower as close to 1000 feet from any home as possible.

It is clear the priority is to not “disrupt golf operations” over the lives of residents. Cell towers this close (300-1000 feet) impact property values, well-being and long-term health. We hope they will take responsibility and do what is right for both our town government and the people they represent.

Sincerely,

Sarah and Brad Blosat, Benson Rd.
