"Preventing Opioid Abuse and Addiction" will be subject of a free Town Hall forum from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, at the Ridgefield Library, featuring attorney Devin Hartley, Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi and Steve Saloom, noted criminal justice lawyer and opioid abuse prevention advocate. Hartley, an attorney at Drubner, Hartley and Hellman law firm, is representing several Connecticut municipalities in suing four pharmaceutical firms, alleging the companies led pharmacists, physicians and patients to believe that opioid painkillers were safe and effective over long periods of time. A graduate of the University Of Connecticut Law School, Hartley joined Drubner in 2015. Joining Hartley and Marconi in speaking at the forum is Stephen Saloom, Democratic candidate for the Ridgefield Police Commission. Steve has studied various opioid prevention models used by schools and communities and advocates for improving programs and prevention strategies. Dr. David Kloth, a national expert on pain medication management and abuse prevention, will participate via a short video discussing opioid abuse and teenagers and means for combating it.
