Driver who hit Cass Gilbert Fountain was traveling too fast

Ridgefield Police responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident at approximately 8:30 am this morning, Monday, December 18, at the intersection of West Lane and Main Street.

Ridgefield Police report that the vehicle, a truck driven by a 21 year old Norwalk resident, was traveling east on West Lane. As the operator approached the intersection of West Lane and Main Street he applied the brakes and skidded striking the planters and glass frame surrounding the Cass Gilbert Fountain.

Police report that the fountain was not damaged and the driver was not injured.

The driver was issued a summons for driving too fast for conditions and operating the motor vehicle without a license, police say.

The Parks and Recreation Department responded to assess the damage.
