Ridgefield Police Offer Halloween Safety Tips!

During this upcoming Halloween, the Ridgefield Police Department encourages all children to be safe. Below are some basic safety tips for all of the trick-or-treaters. Have Fun and Be Safe!

- Be aware of low visibility for drivers due to inclement weather.
- A parent or adult should accompany children who are trick-or-treating.
- Limit trick-or-treating time to early evening.
- Place reflective tape on costumes and carry a flashlight at night.
- Carry glow sticks
- All costumes and accessories should be flame retardant.
- Encourage your children to bring home all treats they receive.
- Send your children to only well-lit homes.
- Avoid wearing masks as they may interfere with the individual’s vision. Face paint is recommended.

Talk to your children about pedestrian safety rules:

- Use sidewalks when available or the grass next to the road
- Cross only at corners, using crosswalks
- Look in all directions before crossing
- Obey traffic signals
- Walk, don’t run
- Don’t assume that motor vehicle operators see you
