Ridgefield Police Chief Kreitz and Valerie Jensen Hold Important Papers

Valerie Jensen, the founder of The Prospector Theater is shown here with Ridgefield Police Chief Jeff Kreitz, holding an important envelope that improves communication between police officers and people with autism spectrum disorder.

The Connecticut Police Chiefs Association and the DMV have created the Blue Envelope in response to a new state law effective January 1, 2020.

According to CT DMV, the purpose of the envelope is to have the driver place their insurance card, registration and driver license in it, so they can hand it to the officer during a traffic stop. On the outside of the envelope is helpful tips and instructions for both the officer and driver on how to successfully communicate with each other.

The envelopes are available at all DMV locations, police stations, driving schools and through autism advocacy groups. Yes, you can have multiple envelopes.

Jensen remarked, "Thank you CT Police for making traffic stops safer for drivers with ASD!"
