Based on the events of the past 24 hours involving three of our acute care hospitals (Danbury, Norwalk, and Bridgeport) and the outbreak o cases in Westchester County along our border with New York, we should assume that community transmission of COVID-19 is occurring in southwestern Connecticut.
For those of you who remember May and June of 2009, the first wave of the H1N1 influenza pandemic started for us with the spread of that H1N1 virus from the greater NYC area into southwestern Connecticut. COVID-19 transmission may follow a similar pattern.
Of note yesterday, in New York State, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo declared a state of emergency. Governor Cuomo also confirmed 32 additional cases, bringing the statewide total for NYS to 76, 57 of which are from Westchester County.
