Ridgefield Police Alert Residents to Email Scam

Scam Alert!

While browsing the web the victim suddenly got a virus alert that took over the entire browser page. It was made to look like it came from Microsoft (similar to the picture).

So the victim called Microsoft at the number given which was 800 642 7676. The support person informed the victim this was a scam and said that they probably had a virus installed. The victim opted for the $500 fee to have the virus removed. The "Microsoft Tech" went in and found the suspicious files and removed them.

The victim then called their computer antivirus tech support. The victim told them what happened and the agent stated that the above Microsoft number was a scam number and their computer had most likely been hacked into. They were advised to contact their local police department to report the incident.
