Ridgefield Police Lieutenant Michael Gates Retires After 33 Years of Dedicated Service

On this day, January 26, 2022, after 33 years of dedicated service to the Ridgefield community, the Ridgefield Police Department is happy to announce the retirement of Lieutenant Michael Gates (badge#144).
 
Lieutenant Gates began his career with the Ridgefield Police Department on April 20, 1989. During his tenure with the department, Lieutenant
 
Gates held the following ranks and commands:
 
Patrol Officer (1989-1991), Detective (1991-1996), Sergeant (1996-2012), Lieutenant (2012-2022)
During his career, Lieutenant Gates received many recognitions and held a variety of specialized assignments to include:
-DARE Instructor
-Field Training Officer
-Exceptional Service Award Recipient (1996)
-Recognition of Valor (2000)
-Chief’s Award (2014)
 
We would like to thank Lieutenant Gates for his 33 years of dedicated service to the Ridgefield Police Department and wish him well in his future endeavors.
 
In the photo you see here, Lt. Gates (then Officer Gates) was teaching DARE to one of his students (John Knoche). Years later, John would become a Police Officer with our department, eventually promoted to Sergeant and was taught by Lieutenant Gates once again.
