RHS student is making our community a safer place to call home

As part of her Girl Scout Gold Award, Briony Sekelsky, a senior at Ridgefield High School is making our community a safer place for our young community members.

Briony explains, “Safe Spaces in Ridgefield are places where youth can go if they are in town without a parent/guardian and feel uncomfortable or unsafe.”

Through a partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield and Ridgefield Police Department, Safe Space locations include Ridgefield Police Department, Ridgefield Boys & Girls Club, Deborah Ann’s Sweet Shop, Ridgefield Fire Department, and the Ridgefield Running Company.

“Each location has been provided with step-by-step guidance, developed with the Ridgefield Police, on how to handle common situations that might occur,” says Briony. “Many parents allow their kids to go into town alone, or may allow them to go soon. Being able to do so is one of the many things that makes Ridgefield such a fun place to live. While Ridgefield is an extremely safe town, Safe Spaces were created to make it even safer.”

Ridgefield parents, please share this “Safe Spaces” initiative with your kids and alert them to the Safe Spaces locations in town.

“It is important for kids to know that there are places to get support if they ever feel unsafe or uncomfortable while in town alone,” says Briony.

If you have questions about Safe Spaces, please reach out to the Keystone Advisor at the Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield.

Thank you, Briony for all you are doing to make Ridgefield an even better community!
