The holidays are quickly approaching and sadly we know this can be one of the deadliest times of the year when it comes to impaired driving.
We are supporting MADD Connecticut again this year and participating in the “To Get There” campaign. If you drink don’t drive. Let’s make sure everyone makes it home for the holidays. We will be displaying red ribbon magnets on all of our marked police cruisers to remind CT residents to designate a driver.
With 347,000 incidents of drunk driving every day, there are 21 million chances for our loved ones to encounter an impaired driver on U.S. roads this holiday season.
Deaths caused by drunk driving have surged 31% since 2019 (NHTSA).
Alarmingly, someone in the U.S. is killed or injured in a drunk driving crash every 79 seconds. The holiday season is particularly dangerous due to increased travel and drunk driving incidents.
December is Impaired Driving Prevention Month–yet shockingly, drunk driving crashes surge as much as 40% during the holidays.
Sadly, 1,247 people lost their lives in alcohol-related crashes between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve in 2021 (NHTSA 2021).
We are once again asking for your help in making this holiday season a safe one.
