Yonkers Synagogue Welcomes Police

The rain did not stop the festivities at the Greystone Jewish Center/Chabad of Yonkers.

The Yonkers community gathered to take part in the Faith in Blue weekend which promotes building bridges and breaking biases with law enforcement.

The event was held at the synagogue which is located at 600 North Broadway in Yonkers.

Yonkers police and community members turned out for a day of fun, hand shaking, cotton candy and chess.

One officer sweetened the event by becoming the official cotton candy maker. Another YPD member, Detective Autumn Edwards, was the queen of the chess board.

Rabbi Mendy Hurwitz performed his duties by putting on Tefillin with officer Dean Campana of the 3rd precinct in Yonkers. (see video by Robert Kalfus) here

The Chabad's mission is to reach out to others with acts of goodness and kindness. They are a community-based nonprofit organization whose efforts are rooted in traditional Jewish values.  Many of the programs help the needy regardless of background.
