Dobbs Ferry Board of Education Appoints Education Attorney Jean Lucasey to Fill Vacant Trustee Seat

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. June 26, 2014— The Dobbs Ferry Board of Education has officially appointed Jean M. Lucasey, an attorney experienced in education-law, to fill the Board seat left vacant by Meg Lauer earlier this month. The appointment will take effect beginning July 1st and runs through June 30, 2015. The remainder of the term (July 2015-June2016) will be determined by election.

Ms. Lucasey is presently an Impartial Hearing officer for the New York State Education Department, where she presides over due process hearings for special education matters, primarily in New York City. She has lived in Dobbs Ferry for three years and has twin sons in 4th grade at Springhurst. She has volunteered with SPRING Community Partners over the past two years helping with the square dance and coordinating the winter coat drive. In addition, Ms. Lucasey is an active member of the PTSA and been involved in many of the organization's fundraising events. She also serves on the District's Committee on Special Education.

"I am delighted to be able to serve the school community by becoming a trustee, and I'm looking forward to collaborating with the Board to ensure that we continue to provide an excellent opportunity for all types of students to be successful life-long learners," Ms. Lucasey said. "My children started at Springhurst as second-graders and we quickly discovered that our decision to move to the village and the Dobbs Ferry schools was a homerun."

According to Dobbs Ferry Board of Education President Tracy Baron, "the Board was honored to have received applications from four highly-qualified members of the community, all of whom impressed us with their commitment to public education and public service. After lengthy deliberations, we decided that Jean's background as an attorney and as an Impartial Hearing Officer, with experience in education law and special-education matters, would provide valuable insight to the Board. We look forward to welcoming Jean as our newest trustee."
