Swimmers Take the Plunge Raising $1.2 Million For Swim Across America Long Island Chapter

Swim Across America’s Long Island Sound Chapter (SAA-LIS) has completed its 29th summer season of Westchester swimming events raising $1.2 million for cutting-edge cancer research, prevention and treatment.

Over 750 swimmers, 100 kayakers and 300 volunteers participated in six, Westchester pool swims and the signature open-water swim in the Long Island Sound between July 11 and August 7.

“We had a terrific turnout this year and thank everyone who supported our fundraising swims,” says SAA-LIS Executive Director Tony Sibio. “From Eastchester, Chappaqua and Rye to Pelham, Mamaroneck, and Larchmont, people of every age and swimming level came together as a force against cancer.”

Proceeds from the swims will support the Swim Across America research lab, Dr. Luis Diaz and the MSK Kids Department of Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center; pediatric oncology research at Morgan Stanley Columbia University Medical Center; and patient services with Cancer Support Team.

Although the 2021 Westchester fundraising swims have been completed, Swim Across America Long Island Sound welcomes donations throughout the year. Donations can be sent to SAA-Long Island Sound, P.O. Box 217, Larchmont, NY 10538.

“Everyone who participates in SAA is a true cancer warrior. I couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments this year,” says Mr. Sibio.
