Annual Petretti & Associates Golf Outing on May 16 to Benefit Swim Across America Fairfield County

The Petretti & Associates annual Golf Outing at the Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, New York, is scheduled for May 16, 2022, and this year will supportSwim Across America Fairfield County, and specifically pediatric cancer research. Foursomes are available at two sponsorship levels. A limited number of spaces are also available for the cocktail reception only. Register at swimacrossamerica.org/golfouting

This year, Petretti & Associates, a construction management and general contracting services company headquartered in New York with an office in Connecticut, chose to support pediatric cancer research with their annual charity golf outing and named Swim Across America Fairfield County and Team JF the beneficiary. Funds raised will be granted to the Columbia University Comprehensive Cancer Center and Dr. Robyn Gartrell, who is a Swim Across America funded cancer investigator.

Team JF is one of Swim Across America Fairfield County’s largest teams and is in honor of Julian Fraser, a Greenwich, Connecticut, resident, All-American swimmer, and collegiate water polo player, who sadly passed away in 2017 at age 20 after a ten-month battle from osteosarcoma, the most common type of bone cancer. Unfortunately, Julian’s story is not uncommon. Every 15 minutes, 50 Americans are diagnosed with cancer. This is a sobering reality. But the good news is that every year millions of Americans are beating cancer through advancements in treatments. Swim Across America raises crucial funds for doctors and researchers who are pioneering new cures and treatments for cancer. More than 150 Olympic swimmers support Swim Across America and Swim Across America Fairfield County is proud to have Petretti & Associates join this cause.

Dr. Gartrell’s research at Columbia University is focused on the tumor immune microenvironment and the potential for use of immunotherapy in high-grade and low-grade pediatric glioma, a common type of tumor originating in the brain.

“My goal is to bring some of the life-saving treatments that we've found in adults using the immune system to treat cancer to children and to hopefully start providing more cures and even less toxicity to kids than our current therapies can offer,” says Dr. Gartrell.

The event tees off at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 16. Advance registration is required and space is limited. To learn more, visit swimacrossamerica.org/golfouting. Swim Across America Fairfield County is also holding an open water swim this summer on June 25 in Connecticut. To learn more about that swim, visit swimacrossamerica.org/fc.

Swim Across America is a national organization and offers 21 open water swims from Boston Harbor to under the Golden Gate Bridge, and more than 100 pool swim fundraisers across the country, all to raise funds and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment. The organization's roots are firmly anchored in Fairfield County, Connecticut and along the shores of Long Island Sound. Darien, Connecticut, resident Matt Vossler and his lifelong friend and college roommate Jeff Keith founded Swim Across America 35 years ago in 1987. Throughout its years, Swim Across America has raised more than $100 million in the fight against cancer. More than 150 Olympians support Swim Across America, including Michael Phelps, Craig Beardsley, Donna De Varona (a Greenwich resident and honorary Fairfield County co-chair), Rowdy Gaines, Janel Jorgensen McArdle (who grew up in Ridgefield, Connecticut), Bobby Hackett, Ryan Lochte, Glenn Mills, Christina Teuscher (who participates in the Fairfield County event) and many more.
