Somers HamletHub met with Anthony Zurica to learn more about him and how he helps his clients.
Tell us about yourself.
It's funny to tell others about myself because that type of discussion is not my strong suit. If you asked me to talk about the 94' Knicks and the strategies Pat Riley should've used to win "cough, cough", sit John Starks "cough, cough" - I could talk for hours.
I’m married with two boys, Rocco and Tony, and a baby girl Stassi. My wife and I have been in Somers for 5 years and we love the community. Our boys are into basketball, soccer and swimming and love to go to Reis Park camp. In a nutshell I'm a passionate person both personally and professionally. I work at building solid working relationships so I can better understand my client’s needs.
Why did you pursue a career in law?
At first, I was exploring a career in psychology. I began to look at the law as a better way for me to help people. I enjoy helping those that are less fortunate or not familiar with the law. I always had a goal to work for myself, something my Dad instilled in me. Although, I initially went into law to impress my parents, I would say my main reason was - and still is - because I truly want to help others.
What kind of law do you practice and why?
I practice in 2 distinct areas of law – Real Estate and Adoption Law. A real estate lawyer is needed in the buying and selling of homes. My duties include insuring that everyone is working together to make the transaction run as smoothly as possible. I coordinate with the Mortgage broker, Real Estate Agent, Title Company and Seller’s Company – I’m like the glue that joins everything together. As an adoption attorney, my clients retain full control unlike an adoption agency, where they would have to relinquish control. I guide my clients through the steps where they can do their own research and I explain their options. My goal is to help prospective adoptive parents find their forever families. I always offer a free consultation, so people can get to know who I am and how I work.
Don't leave any stone unturned. Most of my clients’ success stories come from thinking outside the box. I strongly suggest that they do their research. There are many podcasts and ways to do home study to get prequalified. I have a podcast series on iTunes that is a great way to start. InfantAdoptionGuide.com is a good resource as well. In addition, you can find many books on the subject. It can get a little overwhelming for people, which is why I am here to help them through the process.
What do you love about Somers or how do you contribute to enriching the community?
I've been a Somers resident for about 5 years now and I love the town. Mind you, this is coming from a born and raised Staten Islander who didn’t think he would ever leave that Island. I volunteer with some foster care associations and am active in many community projects and associations. I am an active member of a few networking groups in town including Master Networks and the Somers Chamber of Commerce. Both are great organizations that help fellow business owners in town. I look forward to continuing to become even more active in the Somers community as my kids move up through the Somers Central Schools system.
