Donations Pour In for New Kitchen at Ronald McDonald House

10 Year Anniversary Remodel by One Room Wonders

Just in time for Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley’s 10 year anniversary this spring, One Room Wonders, another non-profit based in Rye, is giving them a much needed remodeled kitchen for the families that stay at the House. After 10 years of serving more than 2,000 families with sick or injured children in the hospital, the existing kitchen and dining space are ready for an upgrade. One Room Wonders has successfully recruited more than 15 local businesses to donate their time, talent, goods and resources to make it all happen.

After months of sharing their story and reaching out to the community, One Room Wonders will be installing a brand new state of the art kitchen this May thanks to the generous donations from the following businesses: Caesarstone/EleMar: countertops; County TV and Appliances: appliances; The Shade Store: window treatments; Phillip Jeffries: wallpaper; Artistic Tile: backsplash; Benjamin Moore: paint; Rings End: wood for banquettes, tables, kitchen cabinet hardware; Amodeo Contracting: contractor and kitchen cabinets; THG: faucets; End Grain Woodworks: kitchen cabinets, fabrication of banquettes and tables; HC Custom Upholstery: banquette cushions; Efren Painting: wallpaper and paint; Moss Boss NYC: moss panels installation; Gleason Plumbing and Heating: plumbing services; Xavier Electrical Contracting: electrical services; Hudson Valley Lighting: lighting fixtures; and OntraStone: countertop fabrication.

According to Sara Touijer, Founder and Executive Director for One Room Wonders, this total kitchen transformation at Ronald McDonald House reflects all that the mission at ORW stands for and the team is dedicated to creating a functional, modern kitchen and dining area for the families and volunteers at the House. “We are thrilled to donate our time and talents to transform the kitchen, which is the heart of the Ronald McDonald House and positively impacts so many families today and for years to come,” said Touijer. “The community is really coming together to lend a hand and help us support this huge project for such a remarkable organization.”

Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for families who are dealing with children needing medical care that requires them to be far from their own homes. Families that stay at the House are provided meals that are donated by local restaurants or prepared by thousands of volunteers who come to the House to cook. “For over a decade our House has been providing families with sick children all the comforts of home and eases some of the burdens they face every day. Our kitchen is the heart of the House and brings families together for a warm meal and a sense of normalcy during stressful times.” said Christina Riley, Executive Director at Ronald McDonald House. “As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary this year we are excited to bring this kitchen project to fruition and give our families and meal program volunteers a beautiful, functional and modern space to enjoy for years to come.” To support One Room Wonders with this project visit .  Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley (RMHGHV) provides families with all the comforts of home and eases some of the emotional and financial burdens they experience when faced with their child’s illness. When children must travel long distances to access top medical care, accommodations for families can be expensive or not readily available. Located on the campus of Westchester Medical Center the House is just steps away from Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. Since opening in 2011, RMHGHV has saved more than 2,000 families over $5,000,000 in out-of-pocket lodging and meal costs. As partners in enabling family-centered care RMHGHV strives to be part of the solution in improving the lives of children and their families by providing programs that strengthen families during difficult times.
