
The Greenville Drive (Boston Red Sox Affiliate) downed the Hudson Valley Renegades (NY Yankees Affiliate) 7-3 in Game 2 of the South Atlantic Championship Series at Fluor Field in Greenville, South Carolina on Tuesday night. With the victory, the Drive won the 2023 South Atlantic League Championship by sweeping the Renegades in the best-of-three series.
Hudson Valley plated the game’s first run in the third inning against Dalton Rogers. Cole Gabrielson walked and stole second and scored on a Jesus Rodriguez single into right-center and give the ‘Gades a 1-0 lead.
Greenville responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third against Cam Schlittler. Gilberto Jimenez doubled and Nick Decker followed with a single to begin the inning. The next batter, Eddinson Paulino doubled home both runners to hand the Drive a 2-1 advantage.
After Zach Penrod (2-0) entered out of the bullpen in the fourth, Rafael Flores tied the game at two with a solo home run to left-center.
Yorlin Calderon (0-1) tossed two scoreless innings before Ronald Rosario led off the sixth with a solo blast to center to give the Drive a lead again at 3-2. The Drive padded their lead with a four-run seventh against Matt Keating. After Allan Castro walked, Bryan Gonzalez struck out but reached first base on a wild pitch. Tyler Miller then singled home Castro to make it 4-2 Drive. Kristian Campbell clubbed a three-run home to cap off the inning and push the Greenville lead to 7-2.
The Renegades have concluded their 2023 season. Opening Day of the 2024 season is Friday, April 5, 2024 when the Renegades take on the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays Affiliate) in Bowling Green, Ky.
The Home schedule starts April 16, 2024 with a six game homestand versus the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Baltimore Orioles Affiliate) at Heritage Financial Field in Fishkill.
