Brewster Library is expanding and renovating!

The Brewster Library located at 79 Main Street in Brewster is currently in the midst of an Expansion and Renovation Project and the community was invited to celebrate “Take Your Child to the Library Day!”.On Saturday, February 3rd children and their families were treated to a presentation and tour to learn all about the process of building an addition to the library and a rare treat to walk through the new construction of the library

Library Director, Gina Loprinzo lead everyone through the demolition and excavation process of the old ramp and area next to the library, followed by the addition of footing, concrete foundation, walls, and slabs used for both the ceilings and as a base for the new ramp and outdoor deck with photos and videos. All the children were able to see all the machinery used to create the new spaces before gearing up with their hard hats to go explore the construction site. The expansion will include a community room and workroom.

According to the Brewster library website, “the library will be double the size of the existing building.  The interior will be renovated, and have updated electrical and HVAC systems; however, we will respect and retain the historic aspect of the library’s facade and the David D. Bruen Reading Room on the upper level.  Click here to view the suggested floor plan for the upper level, and here for the lower level.”

After the tour was complete the children returned to the Children's Room for a special story time and construction themed crafts!

Be sure to check the Brewster Library calendar for upcoming events and activities, and stay up to date on the expansion and renovation project http://brewsterlibrary.org/home/expansion-project/.
