Special Olympics New York Fishkill Polar Plunge Expected to Draw Hundreds

Fundraising is underway for those who plan to “take the plunge” into the frigid waters of Camp Mariah and raise funds to benefit the Special Olympics New York athletes in Hudson Valley. The “Polar Plunge” event will take place on Saturday, February 16th at Sharpe Reservation, Camp Mariah, in Fishkill, NY. There are two registration times and plunge times.  First registration is from 8:30AM-9:30AM and plunge is at 10AM.  The second registration is from 11:30AM-12:30PM and plunge is at 1PM.

The Special Olympics New York Polar Plunge is a unique pledge event that has become the premier annual fundraiser of Special Olympics New York across New York state. Participants raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics New York by asking family, friends, co-workers, etc. to support their efforts in “Freezin’ for a Reason” as they take the plunge into chilly waters.

“The more funds we raise, the more we can expand our programs, giving our athletes more opportunities to train and compete,” said Stacey Hengsterman, president & CEO of Special Olympics New York. “This event also helps to create awareness about our organization and what we do. I am amazed by how hard our athletes work. They face challenges, yet put so much time and effort into reaching their goals.”

Last year over 600 Plungers braved the frigid waters at the Fishkill Polar Plunge while spectators watched with excitement. These brave souls are your neighbors, friends, and of course, Special Olympics New York athletes.

Individuals and teams interested in registering can do so by visiting: www.polarplungeny.org/Fishkill. Donations are welcome and all funds raised help support the cost for athletes to participate in training and competitions.
