Why should you attend SEF's "A Touch of Red" on June 7?
Besides the fun you will have as we honor three distinguished folks for the difference they have made in the lives of Somers' children, it's always one of our largest fundraisers every year. The dollars we raise from this (and every) event are transformed into the grants and senior scholarships that we award across the Somers school district. Now in our 25th year, we have cumulatively awarded more than 375 grants and scholarships totaling more than $1.4 million. Recent grants awarded include funding for a garden and a "Kindness Rocks" program at Primrose School, Author's Day at Somers Intermediate School, a "kinesthetic" classroom and a laser cutter for the technology program at Somers Middle School (SMS) , and a nature lab and arts and technology lounge at Somers High School. In June, we will present $5,000 in scholarships to five SHS seniors for academic excellence, overcoming challenges, sportsmanship, citizenship and community volunteerism.
