Kennel Manager from North Shore Animal League America Speaking at Putnam Service Dogs’ Event

Rosie Tombolo, Kennel Manager at North Shore Animal League America, will be the featured speaker at the dinner following an afternoon of golf at Centennial Golf Club, Friday, June 7, 2019. Non-golfers are welcome to attend the cocktail hour and dinner to hear this lively, informative speaker.

North Shore Animal League America (NSALA), the world’s largest no kill animal rescue and adoption organization, has been an avid partner of Putnam Service Dogs. They bring in extra puppies for Putnam Service Dogs when they’re assembling a class. With 8 years experience working in this high volume shelter, Rosie Tombolo skillfully assesses each pup to select the most promising candidates for Putnam Service Dogs(PSD). PSD’s staff further assessed the dogs, and adopted 5 dogs from NSALA in 2019, and 2 dogs from NSALA in 2018.

Rosie Tombolo truly loves her job. She applied for a job at NSALA on her 18th birthday (the youngest they hire people), and started a month later as a Kennel Associate (entry level position). She has been promoted, and promoted, and 8 years later is their Kennel Manager, Matchmaker, and Spokesperson.

Rosie oversees on average about 150 dogs and cats in the shelter. The numbers could swell to 300 if a puppy mill or international rescue(s) was just done, or it’s springtime when cats are most fertile. She created her matchmaking service to increase the success of NSALA’s adoptions. She loves making clients happy, and has matched close to 1,000 animals to their forever homes. She looks for the right Chemistry between the person and the animal. If the person nas never had a pet before, she picks an easier pet. If the household has small children, has a very active or sedentary lifestyle, or has specific requests, she adds that into the equation.

In addition to working with PSD as a matchmaker, Rosie has placed 50 Comfort Dogs in NYC schools in the past 3 years, works with celebrities, and works with people seeking PTSD or Emotional Support dogs. She works with walk-in clients, and keeps a list of people who have specific requests.
