Happy Father’s Day From The Fresh Air Fund

This Father’s Day, The Fresh Air Fund recognizes the many remarkable men in the New York Southern Tier that take on the role of “Fresh Air dad” and open their hearts and homes to children from New York City’s low-income communities through The Fresh Air Fund’s Friendly Towns Program.

The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. Fresh Air children are boys and girls, from seven to 18 years old, who live in New York City. Children who are reinvited by host families may continue with The Fresh Air Fund through age 18 and can enjoy extended trips. There is no such thing as a “typical” host family. The Fund looks for host families who are excited to share the simple joys of summer with a New York City child.

Doug Fannon, Fresh Air host dad shared, “Not only is it a unique opportunity for a NYC child to have a week away from the city and out of their comfort zone. It’s also a really special opportunity for a host family. The kinds of conversations that go on…there is a learning experience for both sides…. we consider Benjamin part of our family.”
