Insulation and Asbestos Workers Recruit Apprentices

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Insulation and Asbestos Workers, Local Union #91, will conduct a recruitment from July 1, 2019 through July 15, 2019 for ten insulation and asbestos worker apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

 

Applications can be obtained from Local Union #91, 1024 McKinley Street, Peekskill, NY, Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. There will be only 50 applications available.

Applications will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. All applications must be returned to Local Union #91 no later than 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2019.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). 
  • Must take a medical exam including a random drug screening during the probationary period. Cost of medical exam and drug testing will be at the expense of the sponsor.
  • Must attest in writing that they are physically able to perform the work of the trade, and pass an agility test which may include:
  • Working an 8-hour day continually on their feet.
  • Lifting and carrying weights in excess of 50 lbs. for extended periods.
  • Working in restrictive or confined spaces.
  • Working at heights that may exceed 20 feet.
  • Working in adverse weather conditions and in unheated buildings.
  • Carrying a 12-foot ladder for a distance of 20 feet and setting it up.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work sites and related instruction. Work sites are located in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester counties.
  • Must purchase hand tools for use in related training classes and job sites as required. Tools will cost approximately $50.
  • Must purchase text materials for use in related instruction classes as required. Text materials will cost approximately $50.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
