"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" at the Somers Library

An All-Community Read Celebrating The Sketchbook Bicentennial - "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is one of the most beloved American stories that many remember from childhood, will be held at Somers Library on Saturday December 7th from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm.

The Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. contains "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," "Rip Van Winkle" and many of Washington Irving's other popular stories. It was published in England and the United States from 1819 through 1820.

Everybody's Reading "The Legend" is a single session "book club." Attendees will read Irving's short story in advance, and come together to talk about the story itself and how it relates to life in the Hudson Valley.

The Historical Society serving Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown will supply a volunteer facilitator. Registrants receive a free PDF of the story upon registration. Space is limited. Registration is required; please register online here or call 914-232-5717.

Our programs are funded by the Friends of the Somers Library through your donations. Thanks for your support!
