Decoding Hieroglyphics: Scribes, Symbols & Papyrus

 The creation of a formal writing system in Ancient Egypt changed the world. To this day, people are fascinated by its symbols which create this ancient language- all 600 of them! This program focuses on the hundreds of hieroglyphic symbols, how an ancient person became a scribe, the invention of papyrus, their paper, and the differences between the various glyphs. An introductory experience to the amazing world of deciphering Hieroglyphs. Part three of a four part ancient culture series; the last program is Secrets of the Colosseum on 11/15. Presenter: Marisa Horowitz-Jaffe has been studying and teaching ancient history for over 25 years. She enjoyed a two-decade career at elite NYC art museums in professional museum education. She holds double bachelor’s degree in Classical Archaeology & Egyptology from the University of Michigan, and a master’s degree from Harvard University in Art and Museum Education. She founded www.MuseumsWithMarisa.com and leads virtual and in-person Metropolitan Museum of Art tours, as well as online and in person programs on Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome to libraries, community groups, and schools. Marisa lives in lower Westchester with her husband and nine-year-old twins
