Putnam and Northern Westchester Celebrate St. Patrick's Day

After a year off due to the Covid pandemic, Irish eyes were smiling all along Route 6 this past Sunday for the annual Northern Westchester/Putnam County St. Patricks Day Parade. Several hundred spectators lined Route 6 and cheered on numerous social, fraternal and civic organizations to celebrate everything Irish. Many set up portable tents and BBQ Grills along the route and in the adjoining parking lots while others parked and watched from their car in the parking lots that lined the route to escape the slight chill in the air.

Spectators enjoyed several local Pipe and Dum bands along with HS bands, Twirlers and Irish step dancers all led along the Route by Southeast Resident and Grand Marshal Ed “Eddie” McDowell.

After the parade the Knights of Columbus , Our Lady of the Lakes Council #6318, hosted an after party at their hall which was attended by the spectators and participants alike. They enjoyed a traditional Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner with all trimmings. The revelers were treated to traditional Irish Step Dancing and entertained by the Stephen P. Driscoll Memorial Pipe Band of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #704 and Live Irish music.

The parade committee will formally announce all winners at the 2022 Northern Westchester-Putnam Saint Patrick's Day Parade at a ceremony to be held on Friday, April 1st at 7:30 PM in the Knights of Columbus Council #6318 hall located at 10 Fair Street in Carmel. Coffee, Tea, Soda and Dessert Will Be Served and a cash bar will be available.
