(In Person) Historical Dramatization:

A REVOLUTION OF HER OWN!

Sunday, September 25 2022, 2 PM-3 PM, Reis Park Stage / Pavilion

This one-woman show portrays Deborah Sampson, the first woman to fight and be honorably discharged from the American Military. An indentured servant by age five, Deborah grew up in a man’s world, where women were naught but second-class subjects. In the final years of the War for Independence, this rebel tied back her hair, bound her chest, and enlisted as “Robert Shurtlieff.” A West Point-trained marksman, Deborah’s combat campaign spanned the Hudson River Valley. Note: This program covers the integral French-American alliance, especially when examining the survival of the American people and the emergence of the United States as a sovereign nation.

Please bring lawn chairs. Program will be moved to the Pavilion in the event of rain.

This program is made possible through Revolutionary Westchester 250, Westchester County, and the Westchester Library System. It is designed to build awareness and appreciation for the Revolutionary War era in Westchester, in anticipation of the nation’s 250th anniversary of the American Revolution in 2026. And a special thank you to the Friends of the Somers Library for their support of this program.
