How did Holy Yoga of Connecticut start?

Health educator and New Fairfield resident, Beverly Steiger began teaching Holy Yoga at Saint Edwards Church in 2012. With hearts for ministry and improving health and wellness, Beverly joined with friend, Toni Maconi also a resident of New Fairfield in 2015 and opened Holy Yoga of Connecticut. Today, Holy Yoga of Connecticut, located in the center of New Fairfield is blessed to have several ministry minded instructors, all of whom are residents of either New Fairfield or Sherman, CT. Together, they offer up to 20 classes per week between 6 am and 7 pm for improved health and holistic wellness. Offerings range from chair and gentle yoga to power vinyasa, barre and cardio, workshops, lectures, special events, meditation, bible studies and book clubs. Visit our website at: www.HolyYogaCT.net for descriptions of all of our offerings as well as prices and a current class schedule.

I don't regularly attend a church? Can I still attend HYCT?

The word “Holy” simply means dedicated to God. We offer a safe space for believers and non-believers alike to connect with God in their own, personal way and in their own, personal timing. While you may hear scripture woven into classes there are no expectations. No religion. No judgement. No agenda. Just you, your mat and God. We do not promote one denomination or religion over another. Whether you regularly attend a church or have no church at all, Holy Yoga of Connecticut is for you.

I am brand new to yoga. What do I need for class?

You do not need any experience to practice yoga. A simple willingness to connect with God with your body, mind and spirit is all you need. Wear loose comfortable clothing. Bring a water bottle and a yoga mat if you have one. No mat?  No problem, we have extras for your use. Yoga is practiced barefoot (no worries, pedicures not required!).

How do you provide holistic wellness at your studio?

We exist to provide people of all faith backgrounds instruction in yoga, movement, breath-work, mediation and workshops that lead attendees to be intersected by God. We believe this intersection with God is the means by which mind, body and spirit are integrated resulting in holistic wellness.

What makes Holy Yoga of Connecticut different from other yoga studios and gyms?

Life can be hard and we aren’t meant to do it alone. We were created for community! Everything we do at HYCT includes faith in God, a love for community and intentional soul care. Soul care provides a level of connection and intimacy where we are free to encourage one another in our faith and wellness goals with prayer and support. It truly feels like coming home. Over the past 7 years we’ve seen time and time again how prayer and Holy Yoga have helped support students through grief, cancer, divorce, trauma, and many other challenging life situations. We know what we offer here matters. You will not find mirrors in the practice space as we are not focused on outward appearance. We know true health, healing and freedom comes from God transforming us from the inside out. But don’t take it from us, just ask our community of yogis.

What do you offer besides yoga?

We offer private and semi-private Trauma Sensitive Yoga as well as Yoga Therapy sessions for a variety of needs. In addition, we offer a variety of group fitness classes such as PiYO, Pilates, Barre, and Cardio. Many of our group classes utilize props such as hand weights, drumsticks, Swiss exercise balls, Pilates rings, and even hula hoops to create a super-fun, full workout for body and soul. For those interested in spiritual growth we also offer Soul Care such as Christian meditation, scripture journaling, book clubs and bible studies. Visit our website at: www.HolyYogaCT.net for descriptions of all of our offerings as well as prices and a current class schedule.

Is yoga a religion?

There is often a misunderstanding that yoga is a religion, but it is not. Yoga is a spiritual discipline, much like prayer, fasting and meditation. Yoga has the capacity to enhance personal beliefs and all faiths. Holy Yoga will deepen your relationship with God.
