A new timetable for the Harlem Line will take effect on Sunday, June 30. The new schedule is designed to reflect more accurately where and when track work and infrastructure projects are occurring along the Harlem Line, resulting in more reliable and dependable service for our customers.
As part of Metro-North's SMARTRACK Improvement Program, one of the four tracks between Woodlawn and Mott Haven (a seven-mile segment) will be out of service at all times so that multiple work crews have uninterrupted access to perform work on our tracks. Work taking place as part of Metro-North's SMARTRACK will include track and drainage improvements, rail replacement, installation of new ties and general cleanup of the track area.
To accommodate this work, there will be the following service adjustments
Melrose & Tremont customers: On Weekdays, substitute bus service will be in effect to and from your stations for the duration of the work. Customers may take buses to and from Fordham Station for connecting train service. See busing schedule here.
Train service at Tremont and Melrose will be provided on weekends when there is less train volume. However, on four or more weekends during the three-month period, busing may be in effect for Melrose and Tremont Stations. Customers will be advised in advance of weekend busing.
Weekday train service will return to Melrose and Tremont stations effective with the Sept. 29 schedule change.
The following additional adjustments will be made to the Harlem Line schedule:
Most peak-hour trains will have minor adjustments of 1-2 minutes.
The current 8:01 a.m. local from Mt. Vernon West to Grand Central Terminal will not operate.
The 7:57 a.m. train from North White Plains, will add stops at Mt. Vernon West at 8:15 a.m. and Wakefield at 8:17 a.m.
The 6:55 a.m. train from Southeast, will add a stop at Woodlawn at 8:01 a.m.
Train 618, the 7 a.m. train from Goldens Bridge, will add stops at Williams Bridge at 7:59 a.m., Botanical Garden at 8:02 a.m. and Fordham at 8:04 a.m.
Harlem and New Haven Line trains operate over the four tracks between Woodlawn and Mott Haven and then merge with the Hudson Line south of this location. While improvements are underway, the availability of only three tracks in this congested area of the Bronx will limit our operating flexibility in the event of an incident affecting service, which may result in delays. In the long term, the SMARTRACK program is critical to improving the condition of our track infrastructure which will improve the reliability of our service and improve your commute.

New timetables will be available in Grand Central Terminal and at outlying stations.
