Obituary: John Maurice O'Connor, Graduate of Somers High School, Sep 12, 1957 - Apr 12, 2021

John Maurice O’Connor passed away suddenly at his home in Flushing, NY on April 12, 2021. He was 63 years old.

John was born on September 12, 1957 in Bronx, NY, son of Patricia A. O’Connor of Somers, NY and the late Maurice Eugene O’Connor. He was a 1974 graduate of Somers High School and attended Lyndon State College in Vermont.

John worked for the NYC District Council of Carpenters for 30 years before retiring recently in December. He was a member of the NYC Carpenters Union.

John deeply loved his family who, in turn, cherished the special moments shared together over the years. He was always there to celebrate the important holidays and family events and would always bring his great store of jokes and riddles to entertain those gathered. He loved to laugh, especially at his own jokes! He was an avid reader and had a wealth of interesting information to share. John was a kind, loving, innocent soul who fully enjoyed his life and enriched the lives of all who knew him. His family will deeply miss him.

John is survived by his mother Patricia, his siblings Helaine Birch-Couty and her husband Pierre of Brewster, NY, Suzanne Andreasen and her husband William of New Fairfield, CT, and Maurice K. O’Connor and his wife Brenda of Flushing, NY, his nieces; Melissa Sherwood and her husband Jake, Ashley Andreasen and Nicole Andreasen, his nephews; Maurice Kevin O’Connor, Jr and Sean Maurice O’Connor; his great niece Kiera, his aunt Susan McCaskie and her husband Jack, his uncle Barthlomew O’Connor and many cousins.

A private cremation and service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial of John’s ashes will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in the family plot. Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY assisted the family with arrangements.
