November Artist Spotlight at Somers Library - Claude Monet

In November, Somers Library celebrates the birthday of much loved artist, Claude Monet, who is considered the father of Impressionist art. Monet painted his "impressions" of nature and expressed the ideas he saw in objects rather than painting the details. He is famous for his colorful paintings of gardens, seascapes, and water lilies.

Monet loved to paint gardens and bridges. You can create your own Impressionist art like the above easily at home. All you need are paints and cotton balls or fingerpaints, white paper, and masking tape.
First, create a bridge as shown above using the masking tape on your paper.
Then, dab your fingertip or cotton balls with different colors of paint, blending and filling all the spaces on the paper, creating an
"impression " of the water and the flowers. Don't be afraid to blend the colors together. Be creative and have fun!
