Oceans of Possibilities

'Crustaceans'

Have you ever picked up a hermit crab on the shore and let it tickle your hand? Or eaten shrimp or lobster? Heard Sebastian sing in the Little Mermaid ? Then you've seen or touched a Crustacean! These are sea animals that live in water and have a hard shell or exoskeleton that protects their body parts from being damaged. They are also Arthropods, which means that they have jointed legs that bend and help them move around.

Did you know?

• When a crustacean grows out of it's shell, it grows a new one.

• Some spider crabs can grow up to 12 feet long

• Some crabs can live in water or on land

• Hermit Crabs can't grow a new shell. They move into a larger shell left behind by another animal.
