Concerts Around the Corner, New Year’s Day, Concert for Peace 

The Cultural Arts Coalition presents: New Year’s Day Concert for Peace, Tuesday, January 1st, 2019 at 2:00pm, Studio Around the Corner, Brewster NY.

Start your new year at a peaceful gathering, with music, poetry readings and camaraderie at this popular event. This year’s performers: Susan Rotholz, flute; Robert Zubrycki, violin; Laura Bald, violin; Adria Benjamin, viola; and Elliot Bailen, cello.

The program will feature selections from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Sound of Music, Mozart’s Quartet in D major for flute and strings, Autumn, from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Ginastera’s Impressiones de la Puna, for flute and string quartet, songs by Pete Seeger, John Lennon and a singalong of Auld lang syne. Poetry readings will include poems by John Greenleaf Whittier, William Ernest Henley, Mike Norton and Jack Kornfield. Readers include Phyllis Polonkay, Olenna Truskett and Alyson Denny.

Violinist, Robert Zubrycki, is the director of the Concerts Around the Corner series. He is thrilled to bring his colleagues from the American Symphony, the Stamford Symphony, New York City Chamber Orchestra and Broadway orchestras to the Studio Around the Corner. We’re pleased to have Laura and Adria return to this series, joined by the cellist and composer, Elliot Bailen, and his wife, the flutist Susan Rotholz, who are co-founders of the Sherman Chamber Ensemble.

Robert is currently Concertmaster for the New York City Chamber Orchestra, and has performed in the orchestra for the American Ballet Theater at Lincoln Center. He has recently performed as Concertmaster for the New York Choral Society at Carnegie Hall, Encores! at City Center, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic and for Pope Francis at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. A veteran of dozens of Broadway shows, Robert will join the company of Kiss Me, Kate starting in February. He performed in the orchestras for CarouselShe Loves Me, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, winner of the 2014 Tony Award for Best New Musical and he can be heard on the recent cast recordings of Brigadoon, the Grammy nominated recording of Carousel, and Paint Your Wagon (violin and mandolin). He has won an Emmy Award for his musical contribution to the documentary, “The Curse of the Bambino”. As a chamber musician, Robert has recorded extensively and toured United States, including performances at the Chautauqua Institute and the White House.

A suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students can be made at the door. Reservations are recommended, as seating is limited.
