Bethel's Byrd's Books celebrates 20th anniversary of 1st Harry Potter book on Sept. 14

Brian Seltznick, Caldecott award-winning author and illustrator, certainly has an eye for fantasy, what may be - or not be; he created The Invention of Hugot Cabret, which later was transformed into an Oscar-winning film, “Hugo,” directed by Martin Scorsese. Most recently, he's created all new book covers for the series of J.K. Rowling's masterful Harry Potter fantasies.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the first of her series, Bethel's Byrd's Books is throwing a party on Friday, September 14 from 5 to 7 p.m.,, and the shop will have Seltznick's imaginative covers on hand. The event, featuring crafts with the The Toy Room next door, door prizes, and give-aways, will take place at Byrd's Books' new location, 178 Greenwood Avenue, adjacent to The Toy Room and the nearby landmarked Opera House, across the street from the Bethel Public Library. Light refreshments will be served. To join the celebration, click here to reserve a spot.

Owner Alice Hutchinson says with a Shhh, "We have a signed poster of the new covers to give away, so don’t miss it!" To pre-order copies of the new book covers and have them waiting for you at Byrd's Books, click here. She adds, "Never fear, the original illustrations are still inside the books. So, come in costume and have some wizarding fun with us!"
