Ridgefield High School Student Collected 1,000 Pieces of Baseball Equipment for Kids Who Can't Afford to Play

Will Carbonari, a junior at Ridgefield High School, and an avid baseball fan and former Little Leaguer, created an equipment drive to collect used baseball and softball equipment and give it to an organization called Pitch In For Baseball that distributes the gear to children in this country and all over the world.  Over the course of two weekends in August Will held his equipment drive, contacted several local businesses to be drop off locations, posted flyers around town, and used Facebook to get the word out.  He also got the support of several local organizations including Ridgefield Little League and Ridgefield Softball, and created an email to send to the Little League parents.  Will collected over 250 bats, several hundred baseballs, batting helmets, gloves, cleats, baseball jerseys and pants.  In total, Will collected about 1,000 pieces of gear which is a testament to this young man’s efforts and to the town of Ridgefield supporting a good cause.  Please see the attached photo.

This was a wonderful way for families in town to clear out used and outgrown baseball and softball equipment from their garages, basements, storage areas, etc., and give their equipment new life by giving others who cannot afford equipment the opportunity to play.

Will and his father will be renting a truck and driving all of the donated equipment to Pitch In For Baseball, a registered 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, located outside of Philadelphia where former New York Yankees player Roy Smalley, III is chairman.  Pitch In For Baseball provides new and gently used baseball and softball equipment to boys and girls in more than 450 communities in the United States and over 80 countries around the world who want to play ball but lack the equipment to do so.
