Despite several months of delays for numerous reasons such a construction and waste water treatment issues, , DecCicco's Market officially opened its doors this morning May 3rd on Rt 202 in Somers. Little fanfare was happening at opening this morning but a ribbon cutting ceremony was to be held at 1pm with local dignitaries on hand to celebrate. Owner John DiDicco and his Son, John Jr who is also the company CEO, were on hand to greet dozens of customers who came to shop at 7:30 am.
With over a dozen aisles of grocery and specialty items including antibiotic free meats, seafood, and produce, the new DeCicco's has been created to be a place where people gather. in addition to the second floor bar and lounge area, they also have a kitchen and bakery on premises. The lounge has comfortable couches and beer hall style tables and chairs to sit and work on your laptop or just enjoy a cup of coffee. If coffee isn't your thing, they also have a full bar which will also have dozens of craft beers on tap. You can also enjoy an outdoor patio just off the bar area that overlooks the adjacent meadows.Heritage Hills resident Kurt Schutzberg stated "as a fan of craft beers, its nice to have the convenience of a huge selection of them right here in town. I won't have to drive to the Brewster or Armonk locations." He added that a grocery store was needed in town and the addition of DeCicco's is going to be a plus for the area. The store pays homage to the local area as the bar has large stainless steel tap backsplash featuring the Somers elephant which also figures prominently in artwork throughout the store.
The new 20,000 square foot Somers store, DeCicco's largest, features, in addition to the indoor and outdoor balcony seating, fresh food stations like a salad bar, hot food bar, antipasti bar, a juice and coffee bar, and a wide selection of grocery and specialty items, meat, poultry, seafood and produce for which DeCicco & Sons has famous.
John DeCicco opened his first store in Woodlawn, NY in 1973. Since then they have added stores in Pelham, Ardsley, Brewster, Harrison, Larchmont, Millwood, Armonk, and now Somers which is their 8th location.
