August 2019 Adult Events at the Somers Library
Our programs are funded by the Friends of the Somers Library through your donations.  Thanks for your support!

Senior Benefits Information Center. Every Wednesday, 1/2 - 12/18, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm  (No meeting on 11/27). Senior Benefits Information Centers (SBICs) help older adults 60 and over and those caring for the elderly achieve a better understanding of Medicare health plans and prescription drug coverage. Information is provided about different types of government programs. Meet with trained counselors in a private setting to get information about:
  • Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Medigap supplement plans
  • Part D prescription drug coverage
  • Medicare savings plans for low-income seniors
  • Financial benefit programs such as Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), food stamps (SNAP)
You will be able to meet with trained counselors in a private setting. No appointment is necessary. If you can't visit the library in person, you can leave a message on the SBIC helpline at 914-231-3260 or email us at SBIC@wlsmail.org with your name, number, a time to call between 9am-5pm and whether your interest is in Medicare services or other benefits. A counselor will return your call within two business days.

Art Exhibit: Fiber Arts North East (FANE). August 1 - 31, during library hours. Reception: August 3rd, 12-2 pm. Fiber artists from New York and Connecticut joined forces in 2006 to become Fiber Art North East, the group known FANE .  We meet on a monthly basis to exchange information and ideas about fiber art and to plan projects which we exhibit in various venues. We learn from and inspire one another. The exhibit, "Alphabetica", was created by 21 fiber artists who made a separate piece for each letter of the alphabet.  A coloring book with a drawing of each piece has been published and will be for sale at the exhibit.

  • Discuss each person's interest in their car and what they hope to get out of the class
  • Give helpful car care guidelines and tips with time for Q & A
  • List useful car products
  • Show how to find and check for fuses
  • Show how to change a tire using a spare and the tools necessary to do it
  • Give a touch-up paint demonstration
The class will start out in the Program Room, then move outside to a driveway next to the library where Jason will demonstrate these points on a demo car parked there. Space is limited to 10 persons. Please go to our online calendar at www.somerslibrary.org or call us at 914-232-5717.

Jason Dickman has worked in the automotive industry for over 25 years in various aspects of automobile restoration, dealership and as a private car collection mechanic. He is currently an adjunct professor at Westchester Community College for two automobile related classes. A new resident to Somers, Jason would like to give back to the community, and hopes this class will be a start.
