Dual Art Exhibit at the Somers Library: Paintings by Marion Cumins & Photographs by DuAnne Simon

Dual Art Exhibit at the Somers Library: Paintings by Marion Cumins & Photographs by DuAnne Simon
November 1 - 30, during library hours

This double exhibit features the botanical and bird drawings by artist Marion Cumins and photographer DuAnne Simon. Both artists were inspired by the flora and fauna around them.

Cumins obtained a certificate in Botanical Illustration at the New York Botanical Gardens in 2015. She works in colored pencil and graphite and has spent the last year or so focusing on birds, especially local songbirds and raptors. Living in Putnam County has afforded her plenty of time to be out in nature and experience the wonder of watching so many beautiful birds in the wild, as well as in her own backyard. This show is a combination of her garden flora and local birds as well as those of distant regions.

DuAnne Simon switched from a degree in graphic design at Auburn University when one of her design classes introduced her to commercial photography. Discovering her true passion, she gained experience in various assistant photographer roles: a photographer at Macy's photo studio in NYC, published a children's book, and was principal photographer on the best-selling style book
Nora Murphy's Connecticut Country Home. Combining her interest in gardening with photography, she experimented with using a macro lens to document the flora and fauna in her own garden. She presents a collection of black and white and color close-ups that were executed with attention to detail in form, texture, and color.
