Here are some activities to keep math learning fun through the summer months.
Beach Ball Addition
• You'll need a beach ball and a permanent marker pen. Label a beach ball with numbers from 1-12. You can repeat numbers to make it more difficult. One person tosses the ball to another. Each player has to add up the numbers under their hands before they can toss it to the next person.
Muffin Math
You will need a muffin pan, sticky notes or colored paper, marker and 55 small objects such as buttons or beans.
• Place a colored square or sticky note in each cup of a muffin pan, marked with a number from 1-10.
• Children just learning math concepts can start by identifying the number you say aloud.
• Young children will love filling the cups with the correct number of objects written on each note.
Math Magic
Amaze friends and family with a trick of turning two circles into one square! You'll need 1 sheet of printer paper, scissors and tape.
• Cut 2 strips of paper , about 1" x 8".
• Form one strip into a ring and tape closed.
• Loop the other strip to create a chain and tape closed.
• Tape both rings together where they meet, with a strip of tape on both sides of the paper.
• Cut one of the rings in half, lengthwise, so that you'll end up with one long strip with 2 rings on either end.
• Cut that long strip down the middle, lengthwise.
• Voila! You have now created a square from two circles.
