Assemblywoman Galef to Host 2019 Senior Forum

Event Will Feature Entertainment and Speakers on Senior Specific Issues
 
Assemblywoman Sandy Galef announces that her 2019 Senior Forum will be held on Wednesday, July 17th, 2019, from 9 am- 12 noon at the Cortlandt Town Hall, located at 1 Heady Street in Cortlandt Manor. The morning will begin with a light breakfast provided by New York Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital, followed by a performance from the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival from Garrison. There will also be a lesson in “chair yoga” from Kendra Rossney of the Dragonfly Wellness Studio in Ossining.

This year’s forum will cover a wide range of topics such as how to prevent scamming, health and wellness tips, the 100 year anniversary of the women’s suffrage movement, and more. Doctor Michael Ford from NY Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital will talk about keeping your immune system healthy as you age. New York State Assistant Attorney General Janice Powers will discuss some of the ways to protect ourselves from scams that target senior citizens. Maria Alvarez from the Statewide Senior Action Council will discuss some of their legislative policies that affect seniors. There will also be a booth where Katelyn Israelski from the State Comptroller’s office can help check if there are any unclaimed funds in your name. Sarah Johnson, a local historian from Putnam Valley will be giving a presentation on the 100 year anniversary of the Women’s Suffrage Movement.

“I am looking forward to my annual Senior Forum and am excited to hear from the insightful speakers attending this year. I anticipate a very informative and entertaining morning, and I encourage all those interested in these important topics to attend,” said Galef.

In addition, many local senior groups and living facilities co-sponsor the Senior Forum. The co-sponsors are: Bethel Homes and Services, Briarcliff Manor Recreation Department, Cortlandt Seniors, Crompond Seniors, Croton Senior Citizens, Drum Hill Senior Living, NewYork Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital, Nor-Cort Seniors, Ossining Senior Center, Ossining Senior Citizens, Peekskill Senior Citizens’ Club, Putnam County Office for the Aging, Verplanck Seniors, and the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services.
