BYRNE ANNOUNCES WINTER HEATING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN

Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,Ref-Mahopac) announces New York residents may now enroll in the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), a $338 million, federally-funded program which helps low-to-moderate income households reduce the burdens of heating costs and heating system maintenance and replacement. A family of four, with a gross annual income of $57,564, would be eligible to participate in the program.

“Ensuring that families and our seniors stay warm and safe during New York’s harsh winters is incredibly important,” said Byrne. “That’s why programs like HEAP are there for those who need relief in their heating costs. Let’s make sure every home in New York is warm this winter.”

HEAP can provide a monthly benefit of up to $726 a month, depending on eligibility, household size, income and primary heating source. HEAP benefits are available to homeowners and renters. This benefit may be used toward electric, natural gas, oil, coal, propane, wood/wood pellet, kerosene and corn-based fuel heating.

HEAP will also assist homeowners repair and replace furnaces, boilers and other vital heating equipment for a benefit of up to $3,000 for repairs and $6,500 for replacements. An additional part of the program assists homeowners with the maintenance of heating systems with chimney cleanings, installation of programmable thermostats and more for a benefit of a maximum of $400.
